Position Description
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Library and Archives is currently seeking an ideal candidate for the Data/Public Services Science Librarian position. The responsibilities of this position will include; managing the Institutional Repository-CSHL Open Access server (WHOAS):solicits and enters metadata, coordinates customization and upgrades.
He/She will also maintain the CSHL Publications Database to document and preserve the work of CSHL researchers: process incoming data, collaborate with appropriate departments to design, modify, implement, and install applications to support CSHL data functions; work with the Systems Developer in the development and implementation of metadata schema for use with these data through choosing, adapting and enacting standards where able.
The Science Librarian will also be responsible for the library monthly newsletter content and other publications; preparation of LibGuides on specific topics. Serve as liaison to research laboratories by forging relationships with faculty and students and creating new services and innovative tools that respond to trends in scientific research specific to CSHL; seek opportunities for collaborative partnerships with research labs.
He/She will conduct workshops for research staff in the use of Endnotes and alerting services systems for groups or at individual laboratories.
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate will be expected to work on tasks requiring creativity and independent thinking along with a proven understanding of fundamental research and computer principals.
Advanced degree in a Life Science required.
MLS or experience in scholarly publications or a science library desired.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Access. Knowledge of medical, biological, chemical and allied subjects.
Knowledge of the bibliographic databases of the National Library of Medicine.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
