Job Description
The Global Research Librarian will receive a generous total compensation package. Bonuses are awarded in recognition of individual and firm performance. Eligible employees can participate in Latham’s comprehensive benefit program including healthcare, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, a 401k plan, and more! In addition, employees receive 10 paid holidays per year, and a PTO program that accrues 23 days during the first year of employment and grows with tenure.
As a Global Research Librarian at Latham, you will support the firm-wide library research network and work directly with Business Development staff and senior firm management to provide complex and high level research services involving legal, business, and general reference sources while accomplishing these and other critical functions:
Conducts complex domestic and international legal and non-legal research utilizing the appropriate database and research tools. Analyzes results for relevancy and appropriateness to the specific research request.
Acts as lead research librarian on multi-person or multi-office projects and coordinates the work of other librarians.
Evaluates the full range of information sources for currency, reliability, relevance, and value and chooses the best sources for answering research requests.
Compiles and organizes information obtained in research projects into a coherent, focused collection of information, accompanied by explanatory notes or memoranda if relevant, to ensure material is readily understandable to the user. Abstracts and summarizes results to convey information in the most compact form. Presents results in the most appropriate form for the recipients and the project at hand.
Leads library staff in awareness of current developments in legal news and information services, specifically with developments on Lexis, Westlaw, business databases, and specialty databases relevant to the office’s practice areas, and from time to time apprises the global library group.
Evaluates and analyzes comparable information resources in a subject area and makes recommendations for new acquisitions to global library management.
As a Global Research Librarian, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree in Library Science with three (3) years of relevant experience as a research or corporate librarian is preferred. Experience using application software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat and database software such as ThomsonOne.com, Capital IQ, Westlaw Business, MergerMarket, SharkRepellent, and Bloomberg. The ideal candidate will have superior knowledge of reference sources in legal and business areas and a demonstrated ability to work under very tight deadlines with multiple assignments and coordinate / report on the same to various departments within the firm. Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm.
