Education & Social Enterprise Practice
The Education & Social Enterprise Practice (ESE) is a worldwide leadership search and development
resource of over 50 professionals located in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia and New Zealand. The
practice serves a wide range of mission-driven clients across eight sectors:
- Higher Education - Schools
- Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) - Associations
- Cultural Institutions - Foundations
- Government & Policy - Education Markets
 
Role
Global Knowledge Manager
Location: Washington D.C. or New York preferred.
 
Responsibilities
Sector Support for Business Development (BD)
-Work closely with ESE Sector teams worldwide to ensure best information and knowledge about
sector trends, talent and developments are effectively available for use. Fully utilize the capability
of the Knowledge Management Center (KMC) team for effective leverage and continuity of
coverage.
-Assist in the identification, configuration and (as needed) subscription to relevant industry news
feeds and publications; maintain up-to-date record of all information resources employed for
optimal utilization.
-Assist, as needed, with proposal development; drive standardization and templates.
-Review, compile and deliver pertinent information and ESE industry "highlights," including tracking
organization changes and relevant information about key developments to support regular global
and regional practice communications.
-Identify and track key industry associations, events and speakers and other information relevant to
a sector’s leadership talent pool. Proactively identify major upcoming opportunities (retirement,
organizational changes, follow-on work from CEO placements); circulate to appropriate audience;
assign ownership and track progress/learning.
-Evaluate and recommend research resource tools, including identifying opportunities for training on
relevant knowledge tools for members of the sector (including the KMC).
Intranet Site Management for ESE
-Manage the currency, utility and standards of the overall ESE intranet site, particularly for crosssector
sub-sites. Drive increased utilization of the ESE site with improved and more current
information management.
-Maintain oversight and perspective on the Request For Proposal (RFP) processes along with ensuring
ESE is aware of enhancements to centralized resources.
-Ensure the BD Slide Library, RFP utility, best-in-class examples and Search Execution resources
captured on the ESE site are maintained for accuracy and relevance. Build and maintain a case-study
library.
-Provide assistance to Sector Associates who serve as “editors” of individual sector intranet pages.
Liaison with KMC
-Maintain key responsibility for effective utilization of our dedicated five-person ESE team in the
New Delhi-based KMC for a variety of data and information needs.
-Engage, train and mentor the KMC; share workload when KMC reaches overcapacity; utilize global
workflow spreadsheet; share end-products; meet regularly to discuss issues, events, initiatives
-Wherever possible, this team should be engaged for the following:
Sector executive movement and talent mapping initiatives
Data entry tasks
Surveys in support of search engagements
Sector/company research, including creating Business Intelligence Reports (BIRs)
Creation of organizational charts (to include executives, corporate structure, scale and scope)
Gathering executive compensation data/studies/trends
-Ensure monthly updates and maintenance of the ESE Referenceable Search List (RSL) is accurate
uploaded to the ESE site and effective for search teams; suggest enhancements when required.
Talent Management
-Install and manage the ESE talent management initiative in a planned manner that ensures effective
utilization of and maintenance by sector Associates. Talent initiative is outlined with defined
phases of implementation in 2012-13.
-Continually manage the use of appropriate sector candidate "groups," that structure talent pool for
consistent data capture and retrieval .
-Ensure ESE talent initiative is kept current with firm infrastructure developments; advise and
consult with ESE leadership if changes are required in a timely manner.
Marketing
-Assist in building ESE awareness around the firm through a variety of initiatives designed to connect
ESE with the firm’s other practice members.
-Facilitate event planning (external) as determined by ESE Leadership; collaborate with H&S
Marketing Team.
-Contribute to intellectual capital development within the practice; assist with survey and data
collection for industry white papers as directed (co-authoring opportunities may exist)
-Facilitate development of PowerPoint presentations for meetings/conferences
ESE Practice Management
-Directly supervise two North American Research Associates with additional dotted-line supervision
of ESE KMC team leader.
-Assist in the analysis of sector reporting (ad hoc requests) in support of the ESE practice leadership,
e.g., sector/regional breakouts, identifiable trends, core vs. non-core team contribution, etc.
-Monitor weekly "Confirmed Report" by KMC-Assignment Coding Team for incorrect coding of newly
confirmed assignments; direct KMC-Quality team to correct.
-Cross-practice or firm-wide project team membership, e.g., for the new Latitude database roll-out.
Qualifications
-2+ years of experience in a research associate, analyst, knowledge management or market research
position
-Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively prioritize projects and deliverables
-The ability/agility to work with a number of constituencies on simultaneous projects
-Highly developed conceptual skills - able to synthesize information quickly, understand various
industries and functions and be able to present material in an organized and clear manner
-Very strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint, as well as
high level of comfort with utilizing databases and online information resources
-Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
-Personal and business maturity that leads to confident and rational business decisions
-Demonstrable initiative and resourcefulness
-Ability to develop well-planned strategies and achieve goals within tight timelines
-An undergraduate degree is required - M.B.A., Master of Library Science, or other relevant graduate
degree a plus
-Executive search experience preferred, but not required
